Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow

This is about as close to a White Christmas as I'm going to get this year
The Boston Big Picture blog put up a bunch of snow pictures
these area few of my favorites

Farewell Charlie Gibson

for the past however many years, when I turn on one of the three nightly network newscasts I always flip it to Charlie Gibson at ABC News.

I don't know why, but he seems like a nice guy that you can trust.
there was just something about him that I liked
I will miss not seeing him on the news anymore
Im not sure who I will watch now
I'll give Diane Sawyer a try, probably Brian Williams too
but definitely not Katie Couric

The Queen rides the rails

The queen took a ride on the train with the common folk
I don't know why, but I thought this story was pretty neat.
too bad the Queen didn't leave from Platform 9 3/4

READY TO BLOW: The Philippines’ most active volcano, Mayon, oozed lava and shot up plumes of ash in Legazpi Tuesday. More than 20,000 people have been evacuated. Mayon last erupted in 2006, and about 30,000 people were moved. A 1993 eruption killed 79 people. (Charism Sayat/Agence France-Presse/Getty Images)

Vegas/Grand Canyon/Salt Lake City 2009

A couple of weeks ago I got the chance to fly to Vegas to hang out with my cousin and uncle
unfortunately, my cousin got sick and couldn't go
but I still had a blast

My favorite part of the trip was my day trip to the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam
the best part about the Grand Canyon was the Sky Walk
see more here

It was great
and kinda scary
an old Chinese man kept hoping up and down on one foot shaking the whole thing while I was out there.
when you look down it's a straight 4,000 foot drop down

Here are a few more pictures...

I flew Delta (Northwest) and they let me board the plane with an electronic boarding pass on my iPhone. that's about the only cool thing they did. they also charged me $15 to bring a bag. Should have gone with Southwest cause "Bags Fly Free." Won't be making that mistake again.

Flying over the Rockies. I believe this is Telluride, CO

Stumbled across a movie being filmed in Ceasar's Palace. I wondered around in front of the camera's while they were shooting. they had signs posted that said by being in this area you were giving permission to be filmed. so I took them up on the offer. maybe you will see me in a movie someday.

used the Panorama app on my iPhone to take some panoramic photos

Taking some pictures at the Grand Canyon

I made it to the top of the hill and this is what I saw

Climbing to the top of that hill

The new bridge they are building at the Hoover Dam, called the Bypass Bridge. looks like it's going to be pretty cool

Hoover Dam at nightfall

Looking 4000 feet down

Scary stuff, but really fun

Cameras were not allowed out on the skywalk, but I cheated and took my iPhone. this is the only picture I could take without being caught.

Another Panorama of the grand canyon. this one is made up of about 9 photos. almost a full circle

After leaving Vegas I had a short three hour layover in Salt Lake City...

Where I got to hang out with Mr. and Mrs. Sprague!
we hiked up the side of a mountain and took a group picture

The Sprague's took me back to the airport where I was met with a mini-snow storm.
this delayed my flight almost two hours
I finally arrived in Memphis around 11PM and then drove the three hours back to PB
and I woke up the next morning with Strep Throat

six states in four days
Missouri, Arkansas, Tennessee, Nevada, Arizona, Utah
it was a long four days
besides the whole getting sick part it was a fantastic trip

Ewoks Go Crazy On National TV

This is by far the funniest Halloween story of all time
The "Today Show" on NBC had their annual Halloween show
this year's theme was Star Wars
you cant have a Star Wars themed show without the Ewoks, easily the coolest of all the Star Wars characters.
only, on the Today Show, they got a bit frisky and drunk
it was hilarious
see the video below

Garth Brooks

Garth Brooks announced today that he is coming out of retirement.
this is quite possibly the BEST news EVER!
supposedly he will be doing a series of concerts in Las Vegas at the Wynn Resort
I, for one, will do my best to see him while he's there. maybe even multiple times
Garth Brooks is simply the best entertainer ever!

To Infinity! And Beyond!

The Toy Story action figure returned on the space shuttle Discovery last Friday, after first launching aboard STS-124 on May 31st 2008. Here's a video of his time on the International Space Station:

Buzz was up there as part of a program by NASA and Disney to encourage students to study science, technology and math. He'll be honored in a parade at Disney's Magic Kingdom-along with his space station crew-mates and veteran Buzz Aldrin - on October 2nd.

Labor Day in Louisville, KY

This past weekend was Labor Day and the family decided we should travel to Louisville, KY for some good old fashioned family vacation time.
Below are some pictures from the extended weekend...

The giant bat in front of the Louisville Slugger Museum

Random chandelier hanging on a sidewalk (notice the megaphone hanging from it)

the 4th Street Live experience. not really sure what this was all about

Jon and Lindsay posing with the KFC Colonel; Jon must be hungry

Casey decided the horse was lonely

We visited the Glassworks factory in downtown Louisville and got to see people blowing glass.

At the end of the glass tour I was able to make my very own glass checker board and chess set

While walking around downtown we stumbled across this giant mirror hanging in front of the Science Museum
